Digital Trainee (Tester)

How long have you worked at Premium Credit?

I  joined Premium Credit in August 2017, on the company’s degree apprenticeship programme as a Digital Trainee.

My placement here is part of my BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions course at Winchester University. I will be splitting my time between university lectures, whilst learning new skills during the rest of the week at Premium Credit.

What roles have you had?

For the first few weeks, I was immersed in several training sessions (approx. 2 per day), whilst also getting involved in projects and attending project meetings.

My role within Premium Credit is a Manual Tester. My day-to-day work consists of writing test cases, scripts, general execution, preparation and reporting on findings. The business uses ‘Agile’ methodology and I am fully involved in the planning discussions. My role requires me to work and communicate regularly with Developers, Manual and Automated Testers, and Business Analysts, which gives me a real understanding of the work/tasks involved in a project.

What have you learnt in your first few months?

I came into the business with limited exposure to the digital platform, however, through training I have learnt the fundamentals of development. Another feature of my induction process involved meeting the departmental heads, who each provided an overview of their area. This allowed the apprentices to get to know people in the company and provided insight into other roles.

I am now able to complete testing tasks having learnt the principles of development and can also complete basic programming tasks. To think in only 3 months, I have gained the ability to the point where I feel comfortable and confident is incredible. I’m excited about the opportunities for progression that Premium Credit provide. The key factor for me in terms of career development is being able to work and complete my degree at the same time. The outcome is a develop well-rounded skills which are actually used in the industry.

Why do you enjoy working for Premium Credit?

The aspect I enjoy most about working at Premium Credit is the people. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly, plus they don’t mind taking time out of their day to help. There is also a real sense of everyone feeling equal within teams. As well as there being regular communication with senior members of staff. Another aspect that makes working at Premium Credit enjoyable, is the office area. Even though it is quite secluded, there are nice surroundings to walk around – including a nature walk. This is a good way to get away from the office for a bit. Lastly, the building has a modern look to it making it a lovely place to work.
